Machine Tool Workholding Specialist Schunk gets to grips with Orders at Mach 2010...

Stand 5075 proved a hive of activity at MACH 2010, where the market leading provider of workholding, toolholding and automation solutions, Schunk Intec exhibited a ion of new products that appeared alongside established and successful market leading innovations.

Schunk focused upon products that deliver fast changeover times to improve productivity for the end user, and visitors to the booth were not disappointed. Exciting new innovations included the Unilock Zero Point clamping family of products that enable the operator to set up components to better than 5 micron accuracy while the machine processes another workpiece to increase productivity, reduce costs and eliminate operator errors during clamping.

Continuing the workholding theme, Schunk demonstrated the versatile range of Kontec vices and NSE modules for unparalleled productivity and changeover times, especially when used with tombstone clamping towers.

For clamping large round components, Schunk highlighted the benefits of its established range of Rota chucks. Slow change-over times when producing small batch quantities can often undo the gains achieved by sophisticated machine and cutting tools, the Rota Series eradicates these slow changeover times and customers were keen to learn more at MACH. For smaller more conventional round workpiece applications, market leading innovations like the Rota NCK Plus, Rota NCD, Rota S-Plus and the Rota P were on show.

Toolholding Innovations

As a renowned manufacturer of toolholding technology, MACH provided Schunk the ideal platform to demonstrate a variety of new products that included its customised hydraulic expansion toolholder range. Schunk can minimize set-up times and costs while achieving maximum precision with extremely large toolholders and arbors often adjusted to the users&rsquo special requirements.

For small toolholding applications for CNC lathes, the Tendoturn hydraulic expansion toolholder system proved a hit with stand visitors. The Tendoturn system can be applied to boring bars, drills, taps, reamers and many other fixed tool scenarios to deliver powerful, centric clamping with a high internal dampening. The vibration damping qualities result in excellent surface finish at high machining speeds particularly in boring applications with long tool overhang. These benefits were highlighted to stand visitors and the company won a number of orders for the Tendo system during the week.
