"Our first Star lathe is a fantastic piece of kit and has exceeded our expectations," says Rob Bennett, who together with his father, Tom, runs family-owned subcontract business, Scot Bennett Engineering in Northampton.
The company was recently awarded a two-year contract by a customer in the construction industry to produce a family of parts between 12 and 20 mm diameter in steels, aluminium and brass.
It meant that a second SR-20J was needed, which Rob Bennett ordered at MACH. Both lathes will operate around the clock, six days a week.
Founded by Tom Bennett in 1974, the company manufactures small and large batches of components in short lead-times for about 60 customers in sectors including hydraulics, agriculture, catering and dental. It also works as third-tier supplier to the aerospace and automotive industries.
