Swarf free CNC machining has its advantages...
It's never easy to see exactly what's happening inside a machining centre, especially when the spindle is ripping material from a billet or U drilling using through spindle coolant. Whatever the process being undertaken there is a definate advantage to having a swarf free machining area.
The benefits are not only from a visibility perspective. Aswell as being able to observe the machining cycle in action your finished part will benefit. Performing machining operations on components covered or surrounded by swarf can affect both tooling performance and accuracy, in-turn causing both surface finish issues and in some instances part accuracy problems.
In addition to this, it's also of benefit to have a clear working area when loading another part. All the above can be overcome by using a swarf clearing tool. Like the tool in action in the image, it's a simple concept and works like a fan, the spindle rotates at a high speed and acts like an air-line, blowing unwanted contaminants from the working area.
You can use this during a machining cycle or once the part is finished, either way, save time, keep clean and improve output.
